or replace them.

Television |
| Q - I press buttons on
my remote control, the CCM displays the correct message,
but nothing happens on my TV.
A - IR Emitter - small black device, with wire
running from it, on front of TV - has come loose. Reposition
it over the small, tape-covered hole on front of TV.
Secure with black electrical tape.
Q - I see the Main Menu screen, but none
of the devices can be viewed on my TV.
A - TV is set for Antenna reception. Press the
MENU button on the front of the TV, go through the Video/Set
Up options and select Cable reception. Your Media Specialist
or Para-Pro can help you with this!
Q - I am supposed to have a device scheduled
to my classroom, but I don't see it listed on my Menu
screen.
A - SmartSystem® 4.0, 4.1 - While viewing
your Menu screen, press the MENU button again. This
will refresh you scheduled event display.
- SmartSystem® VK - Scheduled events only show up
on the Scheduled Events Menu. If your Main Menu is MENU
0, the Scheduled Events Menu is MENU 1 If your Main
Menu is MENU 1, the Scheduled Events Menu is MENU 2
Q - I see the video on the TV, but I don't
hear anything.
A - Turn up volume on TV using your SmartSystem
remote control.
If you have a classroom Control Panel in your classroom,
make sure the Audio Source Selector is set on Television
and the Master Volume is set on 5.
Q - I can't see my computer
monitor on my TV screen after I press the LOCAL button
on the SmartSystem® remote control.
A - Check to make sure your S-VIDEO cable is
plugged in and/or external scan converter is turned
on. You must turn on your computer after this cable
is plugged into the wall. If you are not sure if it
was plugged in beforehand, try rebooting your computer.
If rebooting your computer does not remedy the situation,
this problem is due to improper set-up of your scan
converter. Check with your media specialist or para-pro
for assistance. |

Classroom Control Module |
| Q - My CCM
says "COMMS"
A - The system may be down or your Classroom
Control Module may be locked. Inform your media specialist
as soon as possible.
Q - My CCM says "SVL RAM"
A - Your CCM is not able to boot up. Rare problem,
but can happen after a severe electrical disturbance.
Inform your media specialist as soon as possible so
a service call can be placed.
Q - My CCM is blank./My CCM clock is missing.
A - The time display on the CCM is a removable
feature. Pressing FUNCTION then DISPLAY will bring the
clock back up. The same command will also hide the time
display. When you turn the TV on/off there is a 5-10
second delay before the time reappears. Be patient,
it will come on. If it is not on within 30 seconds or
so, use the FUNCTION-DISPLAY command.
Q - I am trying to access a device, but
my CCM says "NoCtrl" or "In Use."
A - "NoCtrl" - The System did not recognize
the button sequence you pressed. Try it again.
"In Use" - The device you are accessing is
being controlled by another person in your school. Contact
your media specialist for assistance. |

Laser Disk |
| Q - I cannot understand
the language being spoken
A - Press the AUDIO button to see if it is set
for 1L. 1L is normally English. 2R may be another language
or music. If you have the AUDIO set to stereo and there
is more than one language, you are receiving a combination
of English and another language. To change AUDIO, quickly
press the AUDIO button while the menu is still on the
screen and you will be able to scroll throught your
choices.
Q - Is it necessary to use a barcode reader to
access the chapters and frames found on laser discs?
A - You can certainly use a barcode reader but
you can also use your remote, as long as the barcodes
have numbers below them. If the barcodes display a number
it is probably the frame number. You will need to use
your DISPLAY key on your remote to access the frame
menu. When you are in the frame mode, you can enter
the numbers of the barcode on your remote, followed
by ENTER. This will take you directly to the desired
frame. When you are ready to play, press PLAY.

Viewing Media |
Q - Several classrooms would
like to view the same videotape (or DVD or Laser Disc)
simultaneously.
A - Determine in advance who will have control
of the videotape (or DVD or Laser Disc). Non-control classrooms
can then access the media on the same AUX or GLOBAL as
the classroom which retains control. When accessing the
media, these classrooms will receive a message "in
use." |

Live Broadcasting Cart |
| Q - I have plugged in my live
broadcasting cart, but when I view it through the system
I can't hear anything.
A - Check the settings on the audio mixer. Make
sure Master volume is set at 2 or higher. Verify that
any microphones that you are using are plugged-in, turned
on and their volumes are set higher than 1 on the mixer.
IF YOU HAVE A VCR MOUNTED ON YOUR CART, IT MUST BE TURNED
ON - EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT USING IT!
HARPER WOODS SCHOOLS: Your camera must have a blank
tape in it AND be in RECORD mode in order to hear anything
through the camera microphone!
Q - I am experiencing screeching noises when
using my live broadcasting cart.
A - You are hearing "feedback" caused
by having microphones too close to speakers. Turn volume
of preview monitor on cart to "0" and mute
any other TVs in the broadcasting area.
Q - I have my live broadcasting cart on, but
I only see fuzz on my classroom television.
A - The live broadcasting cart is not broadcasting
through the system. Check the following:
RF cable from the cart must be securely connected to
the wall
All devices on the live broadcasting cart must be turned
on
Demodulator mounted on the cart must have the green
power light on
The corresponding modulator in the headend room must
have the green power light on.
Q - I have my live broadcasting cart on, but
I only see a black screen on my classroom television.
A - Take the lens cap off of the camera.
If that is not the problem, something on the cart does
not have power. Make sure that all devices on the cart
are turned on AND all devices that your camera cart
is hooked into are on.
